Summary: what a drip 2010-07-23
Comment: I bought this because boiling water in my electric kettle is faster than brewing a batch of coffee and I figured it would be pretty fast to dump the water through this. So, I thought this would streamline the coffee making process. It didn't.
I haven't experimented by using less coffee (I like mine strong) or doing other things like that.
However, I have tried stirring the coffee while pouring it through... and that's a no-no. Doing that basically caused the thing to come to a halt. You just have to fill the filter with water, wait for it to empty enough to add more, then add more, then wait, then add more, then wait.... the coffee pot is much easier, as I don't have to sit there and babysit it and add more water multiple times.
I bought this to use for my thermos, and I only use my thermos for road trips. But, I've basically quit using it as it's not very useful.
If you don't have a coffeemaker, this would get the job done. But, in that case, I'd recommend buying a french press... the coffee is better out of a french press and it's much easier.

Summary: Bought it for camping, but using it all the time! 2010-06-18
Comment: Twenty five years ago I had a white cone that fit into a carafe and just loved it. I don't know what happened to it.
I decided to purchase this cone to keep in the camper so that I would have good coffee, not the percolator brew we have been having. I decided to try it out in the kitchen before we packed up for vacation, and I just love it. I grind our coffee daily from beans, and I thought the coffee in my Bunn was good, but this is better!
As other have said, I occasionally get an air lock which causes a slow drip. I find that if I put the Melitta filter in crosswise it really helps. Sometimes I do have to lift the side of the filter so that it will drip correctly. A small price to pay for excellent coffee. I brew into a carafe as well as a large Thermos, and my only difficulty is that on top of the Thermos it is too high if I try to do it on the countertop, so I just put it in the sink. I was only able to find #4 filters locally, and they work, but I will continue searching for #6s.

Comment: The design of this cone with the longer spout makes it easier to use in many coffee pots.

Summary: Ah Yes! 2010-05-12
Comment: I got rid of my coffee maker and have been pour over brewing for some time now. Being able to brew with water within the 195-205 range really makes a difference. I usually brew about 30 ounces of coffee. One of the best cups of coffee, I've ever had. I have read all the reviews about this taking a long time. To that I would suggest adjust your grind and fold the filter at the creases. If the coffee filter seam sits over the hole then it is trying to filter through the filter and then through the doubled up seam. It could take forever to drip through the equivalent of three filters. As far as drilling more holes, I think that is not the way to go. I don't think the issue is with the coffee getting out the hole. The "perfect" time for manual drip is around five minutes. Why would you want to have less contact with the water? Plus the last time I checked most coffee makers are having the coffee come out of just one hole. I have never tasted anything remotely like plastic. I think there have been some user errors here. This is no magic brewing system. You have to adjust to create a great product. Go out and make your self some real coffee.

Comment: I bought this for our travel trailer and it's perfect - lightweight and portable. It fits right over the mouth of our thermos so I can make enough for all day.
