Summary: Farberware Electric percolator 8 cup 2010-07-22
Comment: Coffee percolator works well except that lid is very hard to get off because of the way it closes. After the dozen or so uses, the Bakelite top snapped off in trying to remove it. It took a while to reach the company on the phone and they wanted what seemed to me like a lot of information that was not readily available seven though they said it was stamped in to the metal base. Finally they agreed to honor my request for a new top even though I could not locate exactly what the lady lady wanted. At all time she was very pleasant and explained to me that when new the lid closes very tightly. One other thing that is difficult to read are the pressed in numbers in the metal that tell you how many cups of water you have put in.
Other than those minor things, the percolator does make very good coffee and makes it fast.

Summary: Great and Poor at the same time. 2010-07-21
Comment: This electric percolator makes consistently fine coffee over and over again.
However, the electric cord is much too short and the inner electrics fail in about 1 year of use. Shame on Farberware for foisting such blatant planned obsolescence upon us. CHJ

Summary: Worst Tasting Coffee I Ever Made 2010-07-18
Comment: I am totally frustrated by the good reviews of this percolator. I use filtered water, the best and freshest beans I can find. And, it's consistently bad tasting coffee with a nasty aftertaste. One reviewer said it keeps the coffee hot for hours. The coffee is very hot but you should unplug the pot immediately after it finishes brewing because it will keep cooking the coffee until the pot is bone dry. It does clean easily but you can't immerse it, of course. I have to shop for yet another coffee maker and I will avoid Faberware totally.

Summary: Use JB Weld to repair the handle 2010-07-13
Comment: I purchased this percolator because I don't feel safe to use drip coffee maker anymore. A lot of China made cheap drip coffee makers smell burnt plastic and burnt plastic is carcinogenic. Two weeks into using FCP240, the handle got loose and I tried to tighten the screw... big mistake, the handle came right off. I can see the handle is only slightly solder on. Thinking even exchange the item won't fix the design problem, I then purchased a Presto percolator. Presto percolator, although better constructed, due to their lower wattage (500 compare to 1000 Watts), the coffee is perk too long and taste acidic. Back to square one.
Luckily for me, I found out from Home Depot that a glue called "JB Weld" might be able to glue together the plastic handle and stainless steel pot. It's been a few days and the glue seems to be holding. Keep my fingers crossed.
Bottom line: Faberware brew better tasting coffee then Presto. Use JB Weld if your handle falls off and lastly, Faberware need to learn from Presto on how to attach the handle.
