Summary: A great coffee pot with serious safety issues 2008-02-20
Comment: This coffee pot made a great cup of coffee. We like our coffee STRONG and traditional basket style filter pots won't allow you to use enough grounds to make good, strong, HOT coffee.
Unfortunately, after no time at all, the plastic pot lid broke off. Oh well, we used it anyway, who needs a lid?
THEN, the warmer plate went berserk. It now turns itself back to SUPER heat and boils the leftover coffee as tho it is trying to run the brew cycle again. This is clearly a safety issue and is quite dangerous as it results in burnt coffee in the bottom and (without a lid) boiling coffee spewing all over the kitchen. I do not know if the auto-off feature is working but I suspect not.
Clearly we've discontinued use, after probably only a year of irregular use.
We're back to searching for a maker that will brew a good strong pot of coffee.

Summary: Hot Coffee!! Pain to clean! 2007-10-22
Comment: I bought this coffe pot because I read some reviews on how great the coffee is. It is good coffee nice and hot, however I don't like the hassle of cleaning out the coffee grinds, you need to get a spoon to get the grinds out then there is a film in the pot so you must wash after each use, also a little hard to clean the pot itself must use a bottle cleaner but can't seem to find one w/a flexible neck to get all of the inside.

Comment: I have been more than satisfied with the electric Santos 12-cup coffeemaker but disappointed that replacement filters are unavailable. Have been waiting 6 months and the web site continues to show out-of-stock.

Summary: Excellent Coffee 2007-05-13
Comment: Very smooth, rich coffee - not bitter from boiling - Cleaning somewhat inconvenient - I compost - Funnel containing grounds very large so I must empty over barrel outside - Kettle cleaning also awkward - Very narrow opening - But really great coffee !

Summary: Makes great coffee but is too fragile for daily use 2007-05-11
Comment: We bought our Bodum Santos in March of 2006 and was facinated by how it worked and the show it puts on for you as it makes wonderful coffee. We bought the model with the timer because we purchased it to use as our every day, wake us up in the morning, coffee maker. But as time went on we realized that the unit itself is very fragile and is not up to the task of everyday service. After nine months (Nov 2006)the original unit was sent in for warranty replacement because of a leaky pot. The replacement pot that was sent to us after 2 months is now starting to leak (May 2007). In summary I would have to say that the idea is great but don't buy it for anything other than a novelty. The service from Bodum on the warranty issue was poor.
