Amazon.com Review
Enjoy the authentic taste of Italy as you create delicious espresso beverages at home. This pump-driven espresso and cappuccino maker by DeLongi features the Espresso Pod System, allowing the use of either ground espresso or convenient, premeasured single-serving pods. It has an automatic self-priming pump, a removable 35-ounce water tank, and a swiveling jet frother. The frother uses dry steam to produce steamed milk and thick froth for cappuccinos, lattes, and hot chocolate. A large removable drip-tray allows for easy cleanup. Two stainless-steel coffee filters, two pods, a coffee tamper, and a measuring spoon are included. --Jane DePaoloEditor's note: This item may arrive with water inside from the manufacturer's pressure test. This is a normal occurrence and doesn't point to a problem with the machine.

Summary: Reliable 2003-11-04
Comment: We bought this about one year ago and it works great. We average two cups a day and have had no problems. I was concerned because I read reviews about the steamer valve clogging and the machine vibrating, but we haven't had those problems. We bought this so we could use the pods, which is a great feature. Very easy clean-up.

Summary: Good for milk drinks on the cheap 2003-10-17
Comment: I have used this model on and off for two years. Because it has a pump and an (albeit tiny) boiler, it is head and shoulders above the "steam" and "thermobolock" machines which litter these pages and the department store shelves. It can make cappuccinos and lattes that are as good, and often much better, than at Starbucks, if you use a grinder capable of espresso-grind (the cheapest is the Capresso Infinity) and freshly ground beans roasted within the past two weeks (after that you won't get crema).
It is lacking in temperature stability, so it would be a mistake to buy this machine for pure espresso, which requires a very carefully controlled 200 degree water temperature, plus brass heat-retaining parts, to come out correctly. But if you're only going to make lattes and cappuccinos, and you simply won't dole out for a proper espresso machine like a Gaggia, this machine will serve. Just make sure to "temp surf" (use the steam button to force the machine to raise the brew water temperature, and also steam while the the ready light is "off" so the heating element is still on) to get hotter water and decent steam pressure.
Still, I'd get a Gaggia.

Summary: Did not last more than six months 2002-12-28
Comment: The frother worked great. Made good coffee for six months, then quit heating the water and no steam. Pump still works but what good is cold water. Very disappointed in the quality.

Summary: Great machine with good price. 2002-11-19
Comment: Well, I get a BAR14F from the local dealer(I am in Beijing)which I think it should be the same model as BAR140 as in US market. This is my first home espresso machine and I think it's great. just after read the user's guide for a few mins, I can make good espresso and cappucinno at home now. the espresso has rich crema, and it make good milk for cuppcinno. the disadvantage for this machine is that a bit noisy when it's working. the tamper is a build-in one. and u can't use bigger cup higher than 8.5cm.
