Summary: Nice coffee maker, but ... 2006-07-30
Comment: This is a the second grind && brew coffee maker I've owned. The first one was a Capresso disaster that makes this machine look like a miracle of modern design.

- you have to clean the coffee grinder after each use, because the steam collects there and converts the leftover coffee grinds into a sludge. However, the component does remove for placing in the dishwasher, so if you are only planning to brew one cup of coffee in the morning and then put everything in the dishwasher, then that's not a problem. Otherwise, you're always cleaning that.

- the filter cup is prone to popping out while brewing. This is a problem that seems to be getting worse with wear. It never happened initially, but not after 2+ yrs it happens more and more. I'm considered tacking a latch in it or something.

- an earlier poster complained about the quality of the coffee. I've not noticed any difference here - coffee seems fine. I'm also another coffee fanatic (anybody buying this machine would have to be)

- the combined coffee machine & grinder has a small footprint, which I like.

Summary: worst coffee maker ever 2006-06-01
Comment: i was really excited about this coffee maker. i love cuisinart. but this thing is hideous. it is messy, loud, expensive. the design is awful because the grinder gets full of steam at every use and must cleaned and wiped out for the next use. now the filter door pops open during the brewing and i get coffee from one end of my kitchen to the other. do not buy this coffee maker. it sucks. if i could rate this item with minus stars, i would.

Summary: Not to mention it sounds like an air raid siren when it grinds... 2006-04-24
Comment: The first time we had this coffeemaker start up in the morning, we thought we were under attack. The grinder sounds like someone is weed eating in your kitchen!
Read the reviews about this product. You have to see if it is worth the time and effort to keep this clean. And woe to you if you forget any part of the steps, or if it happens to pop open on you when it is starting automatically. It can be a real mess.
I do like the coffee that it makes, however, and that offsets the problems for me, at least for now. We have only had this for a couple of months. We have used it everyday. The parts clean easily in the dishwasher.

Summary: Too much trouble for too little reward 2006-04-11
Comment: I got this coffeemaker for the grind and brew feature, the ability to make small pots of excellent coffee, and the good reputation of Cuisinart products.

What a disappointment! There are so many steps to take, and the machine is poorly designed. You have to push one button to make the filter area pop out, clean the filter, line it with an old school paper filter (unless you'd like to pay $10 for the gold tone filter the box misleadingly tells you is inside), snap a seemingly unnecessary lid on top (however, if you forget to do this, the coffee and grounds spill everywhere); you must also open the top, remove an awkwardly shaped two piece part to clean out the grounds every time you use it (also where you add the beans) and to pour water in the holding area. In addition, the coffee pot and lid are extremely difficult to separate for cleaning, although that might just be a problem with my specific pot.

Be aware: the chrome gets filthy looking every time you touch it, which is each time you wrestle with the machine; i.e., every day. I've found a latent streak of OCD lurking inside myself dealing with keeping this thing presentable.

And the worst part? The coffee, even using the freshest, best beans you can buy, is remarkably mediocre. Even the dreaded "burnt popcorn" taste of Starbucks is head and shoulders above this brew. (Disclaimer: I'm a huge fan of Peet's coffee and think Starbucks is incredibly overrated and overpriced. Not to mention the asinine Italian names they masochistically force you to pronounce to justify their usurious prices.) I've had coffee from much less intricate and expensive machines that's far superior to this.

Bottom line: I'm just glad I have a thirty day guarantee on this machine since it's going back as soon as I get motivated and return it to where I bought it. Begone and go back from whence thou came, devil coffee maker!
