Summary: Not user friendly! 2008-12-31
Comment: I purchased this coffee maker because I wanted something that would keep our coffee warm since we hold regular meetings in our home and the coffee oftentimes sits out during the meeting. With the Cuisinart, not only did the coffee NOT stay hot for any length of time, it never even brewed hot enough to begin with! The first few pots tasted HORRIBLE, and then eventually the coffee did brew with a good flavor, but it was never hot enough and certainly didn't get any hotter once it finished brewing lol.

If that isn't bad enough, the cuisinart was NOT a user friendly coffee maker. In order to fill the water reservoir, I needed to stand on a step stool and use a small measuring cup to fill it (you can't possibly fill it with the coffee carafe because logistically it just doesn't work!). The reservoir opening is waaaaayyyy too small and water spills everywhere as you're pouring (yes, I do know how to pour water). It's nearly impossible to see inside the reservoir to know when you've reached the marks for the number of cups that you want to brew. I'm short but I asked my average height husband to look for me and he had to pick up the coffee maker and tip it toward the light and look down into it to see where the water level was. BAD NEWS. I got this coffee maker on sale for half price (still over $70!) and it bothered me every single day for the month that I owned it that I had paid that much for something so poorly designed.

I had it for a month and returned it to the store. The best thing I've done in a long time. Immediately following my happy return I took a ride to the thrift store and found a brand new Farberware 4-12 cup perculator that automatically switches to "warm mode" when the coffee's done brewing and it brews super hot and keeps my coffee hot all day. For $3.

Summary: Perfect For My Needs 2008-12-30
Comment: The main reasons I was interested in this coffee maker were for the thermal properties of the carafe and the quality of coffee the machine makes. I wasn't interested in whether or not I could see the water in the reservoir or see how much coffee was left in the pot. I wanted a machine that would allow me to stop making multiple pots of coffee throughout the morning. Most of the time, I would make myself coffee early in the morning, then, make my wife a pot around 10 or 11. Our old coffee maker would burn coffee after about 45 minutes. With the Cuisinart, all I have to do is put hot water in the carafe prior to brewing, pour it out, and brew my coffee as usual. After the coffee is made, I put the stylish carafe on our coffee table or living room table, and we have coffee for the whole morning. I don't have to worry about the pot burning any of our table/counter surfaces because it's double insulated. That's the beauty of this carafe--its basically a large, stylish thermos.

All of the other minor issues I can deal with. Guess what? You can pour water into the chamber with something other than the coffee pot. You know how many cups of coffee you can pour before the pot is empty? The exact number you poured from your old coffee pot. If you had a 12-cup maker prior to this one, subtract 1 large coffee mug from that number. I'm not real sure what people are expecting from this machine. It makes above-average coffee and keeps it hot without burning or scalding.

Summary: Great look, poor design 2008-12-29
Comment: I was looking and doing a lot of research for a stainless steel thermal coffee maker with all the standard functions and a great look. This one fit the bill. But, there's one major problem that forced me to return it. There's no visible water level indicator. Normally with a glass carafe that's not a big deal because you can use the labeled carafe to fill up the water reservior and know exactly how much water you're pouring in. But, with the thermal carafe, you can't see how much water (or coffee) is in the pot. There is a water level indicator in the water reservior, but it's hard to see and you have to be looking down into the reservior to see it, which is almost impossible if you want the coffee maker out of the way on the countertop, or if you're a shorter person. You bascially have to pull the coffee maker to the counter's edge where you can look down into it to fill up the water, which is a pain. The lack of the visible water level indicator was a deal killer. It just seems like they took the previous design for the glass carafe model and switched the carafe without thinking about other design problems that it would cause.

Summary: Very good with only a couple of downsides 2008-12-28
Comment: I received this for Christmas. The first couple of pots were slow to brew (15 minutes) and the self-clean light kept coming on. A jiggle of the water filter seemed to cure it.

The coffee stays hot for several hours after the brew cycle, which is great as my husband gets up quite a bit before me. By far this is the best feature of the coffee maker. The maker is relatively easy to use and I like the programmable feature and the fact that you can program it to optimize the brew cycle for a smaller pot.

I've noted only two downsides. First, by using the permanent gold filter the coffee is unacceptably weak, even if adding a significant amount of extra coffee (such as 11 tbs for 8 cups, which is 3 more than recommended by Cuisinart). I used a paper filter and an extra scoop of coffee and it was fine. However, I wanted something with a permanent filter so I didn't keep having to buy filters so I'm a little annoyed at that (but now understand that this is a common issue with all permanent filters) Secondly, I'm a little on the short side so I have trouble reading the water measurement inside the coffee maker.

Otherwise, I'm very happy with this product.

Summary: I hate this machine! 2008-12-17
Comment: As the title states, I hate this machine. When you fill the carafe there is a plastic pour lip which does not allow all the water to fill the resevour. When you shake it out all the water goes everywhere. I had to end up using a measuring cup to add water. This also is a problem when serving the coffee, can't get to the last drop even if you try! Also the ground basket is very small, most coffee requires 1 TBS per cup. You can not make more than 8 cups with this or you run out of room for the grounds. I guess I over filled when attempting to make 10 cups and the grounds went everywhere internally.
