Amazon.com Review

A virtually unbreakable polycarbonate carafe makes this coffee press sturdy enough for picnics or camping. To use a French press, grounds are placed in the bottom of the (preheated with hot water, if possible) carafe, then near-boiling water added. The lid with its stainless-steel rod and filter is pushed down after a few minutes of steeping, and the coffee is ready to pour. Many coffee aficionados swear by the French press method. The Hugo features a second mesh screen in the lid that removes even more of the coffee grounds sediment typically left behind by most coffee presses.

In addition to the polycarbonate carafe, the Hugo features a rubberized comfort-grip handle and plastic frame, which makes it possible for coffee (or tea) to be reheated in a microwave when the lid and stainless-steel fixtures are removed. The Hugo eight-cup carafe makes about 32 ounces of coffee, which is more like four cups for most coffee drinkers. An individual-sized 12-ounce model is also available, and both come in black, white, blue, or green. --Ann Bieri

Summary: Excellent Coffeemaker 2008-11-17
Comment: This was bought as an anniversary gift for my husband, and he seems very fond of it. Frankly, after tasting the coffee it was worth every penny spent on it. It is not as high profile, or fancy as some of the more expensive models, but it still seems to present plenty of quality, and serves it's purpose very well. I am glad I chose it!I would highly reccommend it over many others I have seen and tried.

Summary: Disappointed 2008-11-05
Comment: I was so excited to get this French press in the mail. I had just recently chipped one and was looking for a good replacement. I saw this one, and it claimed to be unbreakable. I thought it would be worth a try. I really liked the filter system. It has a filter attached to the lid as well so when you pour your coffee, it is actually filtered twice (once after you have pressed the grounds to the bottom and yet again when you pour your coffee). If I ever got grounds in my coffee, it was due to a mistake on my part...so far so good. About a week ago, the rod and filter came unscrewed. I had read about this happening and screwed it back together. Then a week or so later, I had made a fresh pot and was taking the rod and filter out to empty the beans and realized the filter mechanism had broken into four pieces. I was very disappointed. This French press claims to be unbreakable. I believe BonJour is probably referring to the carafe when they say unbreakable because it is plastic rather than glass like most presses. In addition, unlike other presses, this press is almost entirely plastic instead of metal (which would be much more durable). I had only had the press for a month, and I was disappointed that their "unbreakable" product did not last longer than a month. Needless to say, I bought another press, and it was not a BonJour one.

Summary: Very Breakable 2008-10-30
Comment: The unbreakable claim proved to be entirely unfounded. Through an ordering mishap we ended up with two presses. Although the press body undoubtedly withstands normal wear, the plastic press portion is made of very cheap plastic. The first one broke in the wash. I replaced it with the other one, thinking it was a fluke, and adopted the practice of swishing the press in the wash water instead of putting a cloth to it. This practice similarly place too much strain on the plastic retaining the screen, and the replacement broke within two weeks. The worst press I have ever had. I also suspect that the plastic leaches into the boiling water - but that's another post entirely. Do not buy this item.

Summary: Unbreakable SHOULD MEAN unbreakable 2008-10-29
Comment: As with so many of the other reviewers of this product, I bought this French press with the idea that it would be unbreakable. The carafe part does hold up, but the press is lame, flimsy, and poorly made. I bought two of these and both have broken. I hate products that don't deliver what they promise.

Summary: breakable 2008-10-01
Comment: Been using it for less than 2 months now and there is a leak from the bottom. The cost to ship the item back under warranty is just about as much as buying another one. not worth it
